Madrid bid an emotional adieu to tennis icon Rafael Nadal as he played his final match in the capital city amid deafening applause from his devoted fans.

Despite a defeat against Jiri Lehecka in the 4th round of the Mutua Madrid Open, ATP 1000 Masters, Nadal was showered with unwavering support from the crowd, marking an unforgettable moment in his illustrious career.

Tournament director Feliciano Lopez honored Nadal with a special trophy, recognizing his remarkable achievements, including five victories at the Madrid Open between 2008 and 2017. However, Nadal fell short in his goal to advance to the quarter-finals in his 100th ATP Masters 1000 event.

Reflecting on the overwhelming reception, Nadal expressed gratitude, stating, "It’s been a very special week for me, very positive in many ways, both personally and for my tennis. All I can do is thank everyone who has helped me in my career. Even though it’s not over, this is the last time I’ll be in Madrid. You have given me a gift for the last 21 years that’s more significant than any Grand Slam I have won. The emotions of playing in Madrid, in front of the Spanish fans, is something that will stay with me forever."

Nadal expressed profound appreciation for the support of his fans in Madrid, opening up that playing for them held greater significance than any Grand Slam title he had won.
